1014 - A Rare yellow ground Worcester sauceboat c 1765-8
A rare yellow ground Worcester sauceboat c 1765-8. Provenance from the Zorenski Collection, and illustrated in the catalogue, fig. 166.
This class of sauceboat, made for only a few years, is very thinly potted and highly translucent, but the very thinness exposes them to damge. This sauceboat is as it was purchsed from the Zorenski sale with restoration to a section of the rim and to the spout. It is still a beautiful item and could benefit from a new restoration. There is spit out in the glaze, particularly inside the body.
Illustrated in my book, British Porcelain Sauceboats of the 18th Century, Figure 221.
